Putting down roots

This blog post first appeared on our website many years ago. We’ve migrated it to our new website unchanged to preserve our history.

With a sincere commitment to public service after graduating from GWU Law School, we taught in Uganda, and worked with refugees in Thailand and the United States. When our first child was born in Bangkok, it prompted us to put down roots. Returning to Bellingham, Terra was thrilled to accept a position as Executive Director of a local non-profit organization, LAW Advocates. Patrick, who had been working for the United Nations for two years, settled in as primary caregiver to Hazel, 3 ½ and, Oliver, 8 months. With one salary and a mountain of educational debt, we had long presumed ourselves priced out of the housing market, until we discovered KulshanCLT. Homeownership has completely exceeded our hopes and expectations. Dinners on our deck, made with vegetables grown in raised beds we put in last spring, and the sparkle in Hazel’s eyes as she tells everyone she meets about “my new house” are immeasurable benefits. Knowing that we have a house payment that we can actually afford gives us an incredible feeling of security and comfort about where we are headed in life. Thank you KulshanCLT!
