Farewell from Dean

As I prepare to bid farewell to Kulshan Community Land Trust, I find myself grappling with a mix of emotions, best described as bittersweet. Leaving behind a job is always tinged with excitement for new adventures, yet there's a profound sadness in parting ways with such a remarkable organization and amazing staff.

Reflecting on the past 16 years fills me with immense joy, knowing that KulshanCLT will continue to grow a vibrant community. With plans to add 25 or more homes to our trust annually, we're on track to nearly double our housing stock in the next five to eight years.

The relentless surge in home prices and the mounting challenges faced by first-time homebuyers can be disheartening. However, I remain hopeful. The unwavering dedication of KulshanCLT's board and staff assures me that more families will realize their dream of homeownership in Whatcom County.

This hope is bolstered by our community's collaborative efforts to tackle the housing crisis head-on. From generous donors to the construction industry, from local businesses to advocacy groups like the Whatcom Housing Alliance, and with the support of our government, barriers are being dismantled, and innovative solutions are being forged.

I have been a supporter of KulshanCLT long before I started working here, soon after KulshanCLT started twenty-five years ago, and I’m excited to continue championing its cause. I eagerly anticipate witnessing KulshanCLT's evolution in the years to come, taking solace in the thought of its enduring impact over the next quarter-century.

Thank you for your unwavering support of Kulshan Community Land Trust. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.

Warm regards,

Dean Fearing, Outgoing Executive Director KulshanCLT
