Family Stories: The Greg Meling Family

Myles Kroll shares vegetables in the backyard of his updated energy efficient home

Greg is the sole provider for all three of his grandchildren—Keeley, Kayden and Kamron, who are now 14, 12 and 11, respectively. “The kids changed my whole life,” explains Greg. “They’ve been a blessing to me.” Greg isn’t exaggerating. The responsibility of caring for his grandchildren and his faith helped motivate him to beat 37 years of drug addiction. “We saved each other,” he adds.

Greg stayed clean, found a good job and an apartment. But even as the sole provider to his grandkids, he makes too much to apply for a Habitat home, and too little to buy directly off the market. “I thought I’d be renting forever,” he said, until two years ago, when a coworker told him about KulshanCLT.

We’re honored to help this family break the cycle of addiction. “I look forward to everybody building back here so we have a community.” Greg explains, referring to the future phases of the Telegraph Townhomes. “I wanna be in a community, and get to know all our neighbors.”
